FAQs
What is the shelf life of unopened packs?
This varies based on flavor. Some are shelf stable up to a year. Some only 3 months. This is based on the individual expiration dates of each ingredient used. There will always be an expiration date written in on the bottom of the pouch.
What milk should I use?
Thats up to you! Which do you prefer? We like unsweetened soy and oat milk best. Keep in mind some milks are sweetened or flavored which could change the taste of the oats as well. If you’re looking for some added protein cows milk, pea protein milk or soy milk might be great choices!
Can I just use water?
Water instead of milk is not ideal, but we have tried it and it is sufficient in a pinch. Heating the water soaked oats the next day turned out to be the best route flavor wise. If you want the best experience possible, I’d use milk …
What container should I make the oats in?
Mixing the oats with milk by stirring it together works fine, but the best option is a container with a leakproof lid. It is easiest to mix the oats with the milk by shaking up the container. If you plan to microwave or heat your oats next day you can always transfer them to a microwave safe container or bowl, or choose a jar that is already microwave safe. Make sure all dry ingredients are thoroughly mixed with milk before refrigerating or you may find some dry bits the next day!
How long do the oats really need to soak?
Technically a full soak overnight is not necessary. I’d give them at least 2-3 hours
How long do the oats last once soaked?
A lot of this depends on technique. If the oats are prepped in a sanitary manner with little contamination from say hands or utensils used, the oats should keep in the fridge untouched for at least 4 days. Once you have already eaten out of the container and saved it for later, the stability goes down to probably 24hours.
